Jim Pugh - New American Symphonies (2026) [Hi-Res]

Virtuoso trombonist Jim Pugh has joined forces with an all-star ensemble of jazz icons — Bill Charlap, Ted Nash, Jim Beard — and conductor Marin Alsop to record the album “New American Symphonies.” The project bridges 1930s symphonic traditions with contemporary musical movements.

A central highlight of the record is the premier recording of Roy Harris’s “Trombone Symphony,” originally composed in the 1930s for legendary swing bandleader Tommy Dorsey. The second half features the suite “Night Suite,” written in 2014 by composer Scott Ninmer specifically for Jim Pugh. The composition seamlessly weaves together symphonic jazz, swing, elements of hip hop, and modern classical music, showcasing masterful improvisation and technical brilliance.
