Blues/Rock Traditional Blues, Funk, interesting arrangements, Jazz and rhythm and blues, Fusion influences. Teddy Young and the aces is a group of seasoned musicians with a very powerful sound. Passion mixed with fire, chops, and Soul.
Born in 1973 and raised in the coal region of Northeast Pennsylvania, band leader Teddy Young is known by his fans as a guitar playing extraordinaire. After couple years of playing with cats that were often more than twice his age, this player was given the nickname “Young Gun” when he was approximately 16 years old. As he excelled and became a more prominent and permanent fixture on the NEPA music scene, Ted took the first part of his nickname to make it a part of his formal stage name.
This Pittston native got busy learning key riffs and chords after receiving his first guitar when he was just nine years old. After several years of practicing in the confines of his bedroom, he broke free from the house with the support of his parents and hit the jam circuit around town when he was 15. Within the first year of his public debut, Young was offered his first steady gig. Since then, he has been making his way to the stage several nights a week on a regular basis.
Now leading his own band for nearly two decades, Teddy Young and the Aces have become a well known name on the regional blues circuit. While making his rounds on the scene, Young has met many of those who inspired him along the way, including Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Healey, Rufus Thomas and Buddy Guy to name a few. In his many years of playing, Young has shared the stage with many notable players, including Bobby Parker, Little Sammy Davis, Slam Allen and many others. He has also opened for such well known acts as Room Full of Blues, Smokin’ Joe Kubek and Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers.
As he nears the age of 38, Young is more confident and direct in his approach to leading the band. He still enjoys the thrill of being on stage and performing in front of a live audience. He puts great effort into each show, regardless of crowd size. One unique feature of this player is his ability to play each song with his own accord. He covers many different artists, and several different music genres, but they are all delivered and branded with his signature style. As he matures he is leaning more on his own influence to deliver his music. Each show bears witness to his soul and each song flows directly from within. With a new disc currently in the works, Young is enjoying the art of writing and composing an original CD and looks forward to the promises of the coming year.
