Like Kiss the Frog, McGill Manring Stevens is a fusion supergroup comprised of players who kept encountering each other at gigs and session dates before deciding to join forces. Comprised of bassist Michael Manring, guitarist Scott McGill, and drummer Vic Stevens, the band's second album, Controlled by Radar, is a sprawling two-disc affair. Organized into two discs -- one electric ("right brain") and one acoustic ("left brain") -- the music dives and turns all over the map, held together only by their virtuosity. Occasionally, the fretless bass, swirling guitars, classical-style acoustic guitar, and new agey textures become a little too light, but -- for the most part -- the band keeps things quite interesting over the discs' 22 tracks.~Jesse Jarnow
