Gordon Staples was concert master at The Detroit Symphony which provided the strings on virtually every hit Motown record in the '60s. Berry Gordy gave Staples the album as a 'thank you' for his efforts and brought in legendary arranger and producer Paul Riser to compose most of the music and oversee the project. The result is a blend of classic Motown funk and blaxploitation with hints of symphonic soul. The legendary Fred Williamson used much of the music on this album in his cult movie Mean Johnny Barrows. This is the first time that the groundbreaking Motown album from 1970 has been on CD and includes a 16 page color booklet with an extensive essay featuring interviews with Paul Riser, Dennis Coffey and others involved in the project.
