David Garrett's popularity today is his combining classical violin pieces with rock classics over two decades (or more). But this CD is early DG when he was the child prodigy beloved by all of Europe (he was born in Germany of one American parent). I love this CD because of his amazing technique. If you buy one or more of his recent works, you can see why his crossover pieces are amazing music lovers of all ages. This man knows the violin. He went to Julliard as a youth and was mentored by Izaak Perlman.
You can see why he was brought to the US's most prestigious school at an early age. I don't know the vintage of the strad he plays on this CD; he now plays one crafted in 1717. Just so you know the man's roots are in the classics. I have several of his CDs but this one is my favorite.
I recommend this CD highly, not just for DG's playing and Abbado's conducting, but for the excellent production values as well. Then stick a toe into the CD entitled David Garrett (2008 or 2009) and be amazed.
