In search of the sound for the new album, Berry merged gospel, soul, hip-hop, and her love for the nineties in a most sensual way. Berry Street, in many ways, is a harmonic configuration of most of her childhood; ghetto blaster on her shoulder; Southern Gospel from recollections of Sunday school hymns. The echo of Nina Simone on grandma’s radio, as well as the imprint of an ever-eclectic message from Wyclef Jean to Tracey Chapman. A "personal, rhythmic, soulful and modern take on the nineties" - inspired by a wide range of artists and a cross-genre perspective. Think Staple Singers, Bobbie Gentry, Eryka Badu and Quadron.
