“There is no change from the usual panoramic mixture of records from the beginning to the middle of the 20th century, from singers ranging from the well-known (at least among collectors) to the completely forgotten, and whose only common feature is that they have almost certainly never previously been re-issued. Nor is there any change to the excellence of Seth Winner’s transfers or the superb quality of the booklet….as always, there is more than enough to make [this issue] well worth buying. For me, the Verdi Requiem sides recorded in 1913 for the Verdi Centenary by Bettoni and Ponzano with the La Scala forces under Sabajno…[from a group of at least eleven sides (matrices 701aj to 711aj)]….are stunningly good in every respect – this is a real performance, and the choir, the orchestra and even the recording do not let us down in any way. For me, the Verdi Requiem sides alone are worth the price of this CD.”
