"From the Center" is the first album of the duo made up of Sebastián Pan and Alejandro Pino, an attractive and powerful union of two exponents of national contemporary instrumental music. This album takes its name from the genesis of this professional relationship and friendship, which made both musicians coincide in the Antonio Monasterio Ensamble project during the production of “Centro y Periferia”, a plate with which they later toured for several months.
Along with the above, since it is a work recorded at a distance, with Pino in Santiago and Pan residing in Barcelona, the creation process was generated by the exchange of ideas and improvisations that were complemented and worked from their homes, resulting in a intimate delivery, but open to experimentation.
As a prelude, at the beginning of April, they presented Jogyesa, a first single that was released with its respective video clip and that reflects a large part of the essence of this album, as it is composed of a set of loops based on Sebastián's Electric Guitar and the use of Cornet and Sordina by Alejandro.
"From the Center" begins to take shape from improvisation bases that one of the musicians created so that his partner would later work on it and vice versa. "In my case, when generating an impro from a wind instrument, a gravitational center is generated, a sound that drives for its complementation," says Alejandro.
Although the track that gives its name to the album together with the cut “Porta Palazzo” has a classic structure, in the rest of the 7 pieces, experimentation prevails. “We bet on this in order to generate an experience in listening, something that has a lot of connection with meditation and self-observation”, adds Sebastián.
The album, which is the result of a deep sound search by both musicians, also features an introductory solo by Alejandro and a closing by Sebastian's guitar.
