The development of artificial intelligences has been at the heart of scientific and societal subjects for several years. Leading figures of innovation, they are part of our daily lives today, and some are even applied to music. A question then arises: what is the creative potential of artificial intelligence?
Marc Chemillier, Bernard Lubat and Gérard Assayag have attempted to respond to this by providing their respective expertise and by experimenting with co-creativity between humans and machines. Music, artificial intelligence and mathematics are therefore interwoven in this work composed of a 168-page book and a 9-track disc. There are reflections, interviews, listening guides and instructions for musical pieces.
Djazz music creation software is the result of a collaboration between two laboratories: the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics / Music (IRCAM) and the Center for Social Analysis and Mathematics (CAMS-EHESS / CNRS). Creative artificial intelligence, however, needs humans to complement it.
The disc brings together three performances of cyber-jazz improvisations recorded in New York, Philadelphia and Uzeste, and six in-vitro studio experiences. An original scientific and reflective listening in which art and technique unite.
