This re-release of Kenny Rankin s 1990 Bottom Line show coincidently points to a couple of rather profound anniversaries. The year 2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the concert in which this album was recorded

Of course, The Beatles are very well-represented here Kenny loved them so, and Sir Paul loved Kenny right back. But the vast range of musical styles covered on both guitar AND piano, no less, remains simply staggering. With a vocal range of three and a half octaves, Kenny could go jazz, bossa, ballads or pure pop - everything was on the table, and this set boldly underlines Rankin s ability to serve it all up with a rare and effortless artistry. You can hear that Kenny was consumed by the music, and it was always about the music, first and foremost, for him. "When I started, I was very young, and felt like I was the center of the universe, admits Rankin. But over the years I've come to understand that it's not about me, it's about the work, and about having the opportunity to do good work. When someone tells you a song changed their life, or inspired them to look at things in a slightly different way, well, you can't ask for a better reward than that."
This Bottom Line performance is still the only official document of the great Kenny Rankin in concert.
In remastering this rare gem, we ve gone for a sonic upgrade, and attempted to remove some of that 90s digital harshness, warming the overall sound up a bit for your greater enjoyment.
