Lori Scacco - The Order of Things (2021)

New York City's Lori Scacco lands on Longform Editions with a heady extended set of glassy synthwork and warm, evocative drones, somewhere in the vicinity of Suzanne Ciani, Lauri Spiegel or Visible Cloaks.

Scacco first appeared on our radar back in 2004 when she released the severely underrated "Circles" on Scott Herron's Eastern Developments imprint. She was a regular collaborator of Herron's (in Savath + Savalas) and since then has performed with Helada Negro, and made up one half of Storms. Her most recent album, "Desire Loop" on Mysteries of the Deep was her first solo album since "Circles" and was a welcome return, again framing her gorgeous neo-kosmische synthwork that feels like a successor to 70's Meditation tapes.

'The Order of Things' builds on this theme, but runs through a shinier sound palette, reminding us of Suzanne Ciani's "Seven Waves" as well as Visible Cloaks' more recent classic "Reassemblage". Over the course of 33 minutes, Scacco builds an overwhelmingly positive mood with bubbling sine wave tones and organ-pads. It's a warm gust of much-needed positivity for an anxious world.
