Wilhelm Furtwängler was not reluctant to record light music once in a while. This EP of pieces with the Wiener Philharmoniker includes Nicolai’s overture of The Merry Wives of Windsor, and the Strauss family’s Emperor Waltz and Pizzicato Polka. The latter comes in two versions, one for strings only as well the original composition with glockenspiel (which here makes its digital debut). Cheers!
