Nikolaj Bentzon - Arvegods - Sange & Romancer af Emma Hartmann (2021) Hi-Res

On the album "Arvegods", pianist Nikolaj Bentzon dives into the musical history of his famous family. He wants to remind us all of the richness that lies in our Danish music history and brings the golden age music to life in innovative and refreshing Bentzon versions on the current album.

Most people know J.P.E. Hartmann, who was one of Denmark's most important composers and a leading cultural figure in the Denmark of Romanticism. Hardly many are probably familiar with his first wife, Emma Hartmann, who under a pseudonym managed to publish a number of piano pieces, songs and romances towards the end of her short life (1807-51). Emma Hartmann is also Nikolaj Bentzon's great-grandmother.

With Matthias Petri on double bass and Espen Laub von Lillienskjold on drums and classically trained Tuva Semmingsen on vocals, Bentzon interprets 12 of Emma Hartmann's compositions on the album. The melodies unfold on a contemporary jazz foundation and thus Nikolaj Bentzon brings our common heritage into the 21st century.
