KK Junker (Aaron Turner, Perfume Advert) unveils their new guise, a continuation, yet a clear abstraction from previous entities and projects. The rolling garage house inflections of Perfume Advert have been powdered, atomised. Particulates puffed up from pollinating strands and breezed around some unreal space of gong resonance and scratched plasticine imperfection. 'Ka-Tet' exhales itself, mirroring a similarly dreamed organic environment to Huerco's Pendant project or the sky-reaching chordal chimes of newworldaquarium. At its most pop the instrumentals of 'Moving On' and 'Fleshies' are just aching to be hit back with the sweetest vocal.
The 14 tracks of 'Ka-Tet' swell and flutter through rhythm, 'Drop Out' see's Chain Reaction looming ahead with its elegant emptiness. 'PsychicX' modulates through beautifully skittering two-step amongst a lattice of dubbed edges and vocal jabber. Looser more experimental tone bits like 'Scrap Zone' lends karplus sounds to a whale song Skype call.
The album sets up and mixes itself into itself, a mirage of the maker and final thing. The particles shifting always before finding form.
