A drill press operator by day and songwriter in the off hours, Kentucky-born Charlie Stewart cut two dozen story songs over his patchwork career, covering a range of topics including haunted houses, cave murder, Johnny Cash, Fidel Castro, and the hippie scourge’s war on Santa. “The money wasn’t bad, but the booze is always there and you get to throwin’ your money away,” Stewart said of his two decade career, “I tried to get out, but I just couldn’t do it…. I just couldn’t get a toe in the door.”
