VA - 20 Years of Bastard Jazz (2021)

Boutique Brooklyn-based label Bastard Jazz describe themselves as "drawing from the tidepools of electronic music, disco, hip-hop, house, dub and global music", which gives you a good idea of the musical variety you can expect from this 20-track compilation, released to mark their 20th birthday. There aren't many big names in evidence (though Jimpster's in the house with his remix of Peter Matson's 'Roma Norte') but there's still much to enjoy here, from laidback grooves like Captain Planet's 'Hammock Dreams' to the stuttery bruk beat/two-step of BRISA's 'Astro Funk' via the lavish uptempo soul of The Pendletons' 'Keep It Working', an album highlight for yours truly.
