Lisa Wulff's fourth album differs significantly from its three predecessors. For example, because Wulff not only appears as a virtuoso bassist and charismatic band leader, but also contributes all of the vocal parts - and that with a natural and lightness, as if she had never done anything else.
“In fact, this role wasn't new to me. I've always sung - in ensembles run by Clara Haberkamp or Nils Landgren, for example, ”emphasizes the 31-year-old from Hamburg, who is one of the shooting stars of the young German jazz scene. “At the height of the corona pandemic, I felt like most musicians. I spent a lot of time at home and had the opportunity to reflect on what is really important to me. And so the idea gradually matured to record an album on which I combine vocal parts with a brass section. ”To this end, Wulff expanded her core trio - consisting of saxophonist Adrian Hanack and drummer Silvan Strauss - to include two prominent guest musicians. “I've always enjoyed working with prominent soloists. That I was able to win my favorite candidates for the project with Gabriel Coburger, who plays bass clarinet and transverse flute in addition to the saxophone and trombonist Stefan Lottermann, makes me particularly happy, ”says Wulff, looking back on an elaborate production process that lasted nine months.
With its friendly, bright colors and the mosaic-like patterns, the album artwork also invites the viewer to discover meaning and sensuality in Lisa Wulff's musical cosmos.
