Saxophonist and clarinetist Wendell Harrison was a true prodigy of jazz (he was backing Marvin Gaye at just 14!) who subsequently went on to become a giant of the art form. Aided here by a stellar band featuring Phil Ranelin, Harold McKinney and Roy Brooks, Dreams of a Love Supreme, released in 1979, is one of his first claims to the title of jazz master. You can hear blissful smoothness emerging on the horizon, but Dreams of a Love Supreme is as chock full of hot and heavy as the next raw jazz classic.
