Much has been written and conjectured about the relationship between Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann. What is substantiated is that both of them regularly informed each other about progress in composition and critically accompanied the other's works. On this recording, the Austrian Eggner Trio compares and contrasts the only piano trio by Clara Schumann (in G minor op. 17) with the Piano Trio No. 2 in C major op. 87 by Brahms, completed almost 40 years later. The three brothers Christoph, Georg and Florian Eggner, who have played music together since their early childhood, find means and ways of expression to trace the sometimes intertwined musical structures and to attend to the unhappy relationship between Brahms and the married Clara Schumann with the correct extent of passion.

Christoph Eggner, piano, Georg Eggner, violin, and Florian Eggner, cello, were taught by such important teachers as Günter Pichler and Thomas Kakuska (Alban Berg Quartet), Juri Smirnov (Vienna Brahms Trio), Menahem Pressler (Beaux Arts Trio) or the Altenberg Trio Vienna. After winning the International Chamber Music Festival in Melbourne in 2003 (special prize with Musica Viva Australia), they have caused a world-wide sensation with concerts in Europe, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Tunisia and the USA.
Many radio recordings, including those for Austrian Radio, the BBC, Bavarian Radio, Radio France, ABC Australia and Classic FM New Zealand, and chamber music courses held in Austria, New Zealand and Australia since 2005 testify to the international reputation of the trio. Three CDs released to date, including the debut recording of the first trio by Iván Eröd, complete the activities of the Eggner brothers.
