Renate Sperger - Orgelkosmos (2013)

The organist Renate Sperger presents toccatas, fugues and chorale preludes from four centuries on this CD. Organ hits and rarely played items can be heard, and the arc extends from Bach over Schubert, Brahms and Respighi to the contemporary Austrians Kurt Estermann, Ivan Eröd and Thomas Daniel Schlee. The fact that three different organs in Vienna and Feldkirch are used with their very special sounds and specific registers offers an additional fascination when listening to this successful recording.

The Vorarlberg-born Renate Sperger completed studies in performance organ and church music, harpsichord and music theory at the University of Music and the Performing Arts in Vienna. With such a background, the musician, who is also much in demand as a continuo player, can refer to busy concert activity in Austria and abroad. Sperger is particularly fond of Old Music, and as a specialist in historical performance practice she frequently plays on period instruments.
Apart from organ recitals at renowned festivals (Bregenz Festival, Upper Austrian Monastery Concerts, the International Organ Summer in Karlsruhe) and solo performances with orchestras such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Vorarlberg or the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler, her portfolio includes many opera and oratorio productions. In addition, for many years Renate Sperger has held an organ class at the Diocesan Conservatoire of Church Music of the Archdiocese of Vienna.
