Paul the Apostle was born 2,000 years ago. Although the exact year of his birth is not known, Pope Benedict proclaimed this the Year of St Paul on 28th June. The Frauenschola Exsulta Sion Freiburg marks this occasion with these recordings of Gregorian chants to texts by the Apostle. Many passages from Paul's Letters have entered the Catholic liturgy and were sung to Gregorian melodies in medieval times. Christoph Hönerlage, a theologian as well as a church musician, provides a fascinating introduction to the Apostle's life and theology in the excellent booklet.
