The Dharma Moon Orchestra, led by David Nichtern and Matt Oestreicher, will release a new recording, “Pandemoonia,” on March 25. Special guests on the album include Julian Lage, guitar; Randy Brecker, trumpet; Ada Rovatti, saxes; and Jerry Marotta, drums and percussion.
“For the past two years I have been mostly holed up in my house in East Hampton, New York,” said Nichtern. “In the previous seven or eight years I had traveled extensively, playing music and teaching Buddhism all over the world. Now, as for so many of us, my travel options had been severely limited by the onset of COVID-19.
“Perhaps as a coping mechanism, but also as a way to dig deep and keep creative juices and connectivity flowing, I launched two projects that I could work on from home — both of which arose organically from the focus and passions of my lifetime.
“One project,” he said, “was to take the extensive work I have done teaching Buddhism and meditation over many decades from the physical world to the digital domain. The outcome was Dharma Moon — a mindfulness based educational platform and global creative community.”
