The name of Czech composer Jan Václav Stamic is closely connected to a number of basic musical-historical terms, for example, the Mannheim School, Classical style, cyclic sonata form and the symphony. His sons Carl and Anton followed in their father's footsteps as outstanding instrumentalists and composers, and the contributions of the Stamic (or Stamitz, in German) family were fundamental to the rise of a new musical style in the second half of the 18th century. These viola concertos by all three Stamitzes were recorded by Jan Peruška, longtime 1st viola of the Prague Symphonists and member of the famous Stamic Quartet, accompanied by the Prague Philharmonia and conductor Jiří Bělohlávek.
