Number Junky is a newly formed trio in Perth, led by acclaimed Danish guitarist Kristian Borring, and the exciting Aussie rhythm section of Zac Grafton and Peter Evans. The group was formed in the early days of world lockdowns. Outstanding Cuban/American pianist, Fabian Almazan, features also as special guest.

This is Borring’s sixth album as a leader and his first Australian soil. This 10-track debut album explores a love of numbers and odd time signatures. On the surface ‘Earth Matters' appears as a smooth repertoire of lyrical melodies and ultra lush harmonies that are rhythmically-hip and feature extraordinary technical prowess, but delve deeper and you’ll discover a masterful complexity that respects and honours the greats of the past but with the addition of Borring’s own journey into musical and psychological listening concepts that shape him as a composer and improviser

“The exploration of numbers for us really refers to time and rhythm,” Borring says. “While we play with polyrhythmic ideas what we explore in particular is the notion of complex musical meter – in the jazz world also referred to as odd-meter and mixed meter.”

The title ‘Earth Matters’ is a reflection on the urgency and need to act and show responsibility towards the future of our planet and be clever about sustainable steps to reverse the harm we have done. “We need to act now to save our habitat. We have so many clever and forward thinking minds out there that are busting we ideas and initiatives that needs to be supported and rewarded”, says Kristian.
