"Music comes from the soul, and if it is received, it goes into the soul. From and into that soul, which is neither fast nor slow - but the creator of everything. There are few composers comparable to Schubert in whom the soul makes music directly. His music therefore touches souls without mediation.
In doing so, he reveals and betrays one of the most important qualities of music, which perhaps only the greatest can express in composition or interpretation: that music is not subject to time or dynamics. It creates them, they come from it. The music itself creates its own time, space, power, but it is not entirely its own, since it is created by the composer's nervous system and revived by that of the performer-receiver. Music is identical with its own time and dynamics. It doesn't have to be played loud or fast - it has to be performed, and the music creates itself, the melody, the loud, the soft, the fast or the slow. If we add this separately, it does not come from the music, it does not become the music's time, space or dynamics." Misi Boros, Jolan Orban, Janos Boros
