Published in Paris in 1737 under the name of Antonio Vivaldi, the "Il Pastor Fido" sonatas were enthusiastically received when they were rediscovered in the twentieth century by flautists, oboists and violinists in search of the Baroque repertoire. They have thus been the subject of numerous recordings, in particular with the recorder, an instrument which is not explicitly named on the title page, but whose scope corresponds to that of the musette for which these sonatas were originally composed.
