Bloria's Voice - Floral Feelings (2022)

Young free folk songwriter Bloria's Voice offers a teenaged approximation of Animal Collective on their ramshackle full-length debut.

Illinois singer-songwriter Morgan Storer is only 15 years old, but already they've managed to assemble a promising debut album for Primordial Void that shows off their influences and points ahead at their future. The label describes "Floral Feelings" as a new kind of New Weird America, and it's hard to disagree.

There's the unmistakable influence of Animal Collective in Storer's jangly guitar chords and wavering vocals, but there's also plenty more going on in the background. Storer pipes their acoustic sounds into a mass of electronic FX on 'Your Eyes', creating an impressive foggy hum that couches their vocals. On 'Hopes A Hopeless Feeling', they embrace dub echo, crooning into the vortex and reminding us of Bright Eyes, or even Khonnor.
