The Independent is a 2022 American political film directed by Amy Rice and written by Evan Parter. It stars Jodie Turner-Smith, Brian Cox, Luke Kirby, Stephen Lang, Ann Dowd, and John Cena. The plot centers around a reporter who uncovers a conspiracy that could impact the results of an upcoming presidential election.

Jessica Rose Weiss is a composer based in Los Angeles, CA. She first fell in love with music studying ballet and theatre in New York City in her youth, and this passion eventually led her to Warner Brothers Studios in London. It was there that she was recruited by Hans Zimmer to apprentice at Remote Control Productions. After years working her way up the ladder as a music editor, she found a life-changing mentorship in film composition working side by side with Academy Award-winning composer Mychael Danna.
Jessica has created an impressive body of work across multiple music genres ranging from folk to electronic to orchestral. Last year, she scored Sony/Amazon’s “Cinderella,” directed by Kay Cannon and starring pop superstar Camila Cabello, which was the #1 streaming film Worldwide. For this achievement, she won her first BMI Award. Additional credits include the Netflix #1 hits “Dog Gone Trouble” and “Afterlife of the Party," the Cannes Independent Film Awards Best Feature winner “Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men” (featuring a collaboration with pop sensation Sia), and the Dolly Parton-produced Women’s Rights documentary “Still Working 9 to 5."
She recently finished Amazon’s dramedy “Don’t Make Me Go” starring John Cho as well as “The Independent” directed by Amy Rice, starring Brian Cox, John Cena & Jodie Turner Smith which premiered on Peacock. She is currently scoring Nicol Paone’s thriller “The Kill Room” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman.
In addition to her film work, Jessica’s music has been performed on stages around the world, from The Globe Theater in London to The Joffrey Ballet in Chicago to The Wiltern Theater in LA.
