The Psychoviolets were a garage-rock band hailing from Lawrence, Kansas, active under various names from approximately 1982 through 1995.
The Psychoviolets began as a blues-rock band under the name of The Violet Blues. Sometime in the mid-80's, they changed their name to The Ultraviolets, reflective of the evolution of their sound and the subject matter of their songs. They were picked up by German record label Music Maniac Records, and released their first LP, Changing Times, in 1990.
In 1992, the band signed with Restless Records. The rising fame of the California-based Ultraviolets prompted the band to again change their name. The re-christened Psychoviolets released their second album, Too Little Too Late, in the same year. This album inlcluded the songs "Stoned" and "End Of It All," which would earn radio play in Chicago, Kansas City, and the band's hometown of Lawrence.
In 1993, Music Maniac featured the Psychoviolets in their "Teen Trash" series, releasing a 20-track CD entitled, "Teen Trash, Vol. 2." This CD included songs from the Changing Times LP, as well as several tracks from their Restless album, Too Little Too Late. It also included previously unreleased material.
The band struggled with internal troubles and infighting during the latter part of its career, resulting in the firing and re-hiring of members. These issues, along with problems caused by increasing drug abuse, would ultimately result in the band's demise in about 1995.
