Baptiste Herbin & Nicolas Gardel - Symmetric (2023)

The Symmetric project is the result of the meeting between saxophonist Baptiste Herbin and trumpeter Nicolas Gardel. Both virtuoso instrumentalists, composers and improvisers. They will put their worlds in symmetry, that of Baptiste Herbin's jazz and Nicolas Gardel's contemporary music.

With a discography already well developed and noticed by critics, the two musicians are accompanied by a rhythmic duo of very high level, with Laurent Coulondre on keyboards and Yoann Serra on drums, long-time accomplices. This combo of eclectic personalities brings together in this album tradition and modernity, jazz and current music, the north of Baptiste and Laurent and the south of Nicolas and Yoann, in perfect symmetry.

Written with four hands and recorded in August 2022 at the Limusic studio, the project highlights the talents of these 4 musicians. They combine their musical experiences and their instrumental mastery to offer us an explosive and festive album with a single vision: SYMMETRIC.

The compositions of this album cross several musical styles. Jazz of course, with the compositions "Henriette" by Baptiste, who is inspired by one of the strong women of his family, or "the Stroke" by Nicolas Gardel. The soul blues of “Zappy”, the pop of Heartbreaker, but also more personal tracks like “Endless Memories of you“, an ode to loved ones who left too soon. “10-07”, a funk which evokes in a festive way the loss of Mr Gardel's driving license, or even “ARCOS” which evokes the village – Arcos de la frontera – village of origin of Nicolas' mother and breeding ground of its Andalusian influences.
