Tim Crosby is a Southern Illinois-based Americana songwriter and performer. Playing solo or with his trio, Crosby performs more than 150 shows a year at venues in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana and Kentucky, playing all original music that explores the trials and triumphs of everyday people.
Born and raised in black dirt flatlands of Central Illinois, near the agribusiness/industrial city of Decatur, Crosby has been writing songs and playing music most of his life, starting his first band at 13 years old as its drummer. The oldest of three children and the son of an electrician father and schoolteacher mother, Crosby’s Midwestern upbringing and unique outlook are present in every gritty, sad, uplifting or funny story his songs tell.
“I want to touch people when I sing, poke them right in the feels. And my songs are aimed directly at their hearts and minds,” he says.
In 2017, Crosby released a CD titled "Resurrection Mule Farm" with his former band, the Lightning Strikes. His second record, "Make Your Own Fun," came out in June 2020 followed by "Always Rising," his third record, released in August 2021. “Always Rising” was hailed by Southern Illinois radio DJ Loy Addington as one of the finest records ever to come out of the music-rich region.
“How is it that one local singer-songwriter can create such a monumental album?” Addington wrote. “Tim Crosby has created one of the finest CDs to ever come from our region with his very personal, very human songs about real life.”
Crosby currently is working on a new record titled “Trouble’s Coming,” due out in 2023. His influences include Steve Earle, Tom Petty, Todd Snider, John Prine, Chris Knight and others.
