At first it was an Akira Kurosawa film, and let's say straight away that Erik Satie fans will be delighted, as will Fabrice Theuillon aficionados and Yvan Robilliard fans. We must admit that there is something to be amazed by the album in question. We no longer need to introduce Erik Satie (1866 – 1925), French composer and pianist who left about fifty works (Gymnopédies, Gnossiennes, etc…). I refer the most curious and the most novice to the official site which lists his works, and to consult HERE. The saxophonist Fabrice Theuillon (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse) has certainly a little less busy news than that of the Norman composer, but it should be noted that he nevertheless created in 2015 The Wolphonics, a French Hip-Hop/Jazz group and has he already recorded with Yvan Robilliard the album Intuitions in 2009. His sidekick for this Ikiru plays Satie, Yvan Robilliard, is 1st Prize for soloist and 1st Prize for composition at the National Jazz Competition at La Défense in 2007, he already has several galettes to his credit, including Spider's Dance with bassist Hubert Dupont, saxophonist Rudresh Mahhanthappa and drummer Chander Sardjoe, Intuitions (piano, saxophone, drums)…
On this very beautiful opus, 13 compositions by Erik Satie interpreted in an astonishing, surprising and captivating way, by the saxophone / piano and moog pair. Forty minutes during which a rain of multi-colored sounds overwhelm and possess the listener. We let ourselves be totally charmed by this curious, captivating and hypnotic sound assembly! An album that charms and seduces you by the way it makes you think that all this is just a series of improvisations as tender as they are mischievous, as docile as they are wild.
