Music from the documentary by John Scheinfeld (Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everyone Talking About Him), The U.S. vs. John Lennon, Herb Alpert Is…)
Director John Scheinfeld asked me to write an original score for the non-performance portions of the film. I passed, telling him that I don’t physically notate (write) music. But he was relentless, pressing me again and again, saying ‘who better to do the score than a founding member and leader of BS&T?’
Bobby Colomby (Drummer and founding member of Blood, Sweat & Tears)
What The Hell Happened To Blood, Sweat & Tears? is the new documentary produced and directed by acclaimed music documentarian John Scheinfeld (The U.S. vs. John Lennon, Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him?), Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary). The film is a political thriller with a classic rock band at the heart of the action following Blood, Sweat & Tears’ ill-advised 1970 tour of Yugoslavia, Romania and Poland, a tour sponsored by the U.S. State Department.
The film includes 53 minutes of never-before-seen footage that was previously thought to be lost of the biggest band in America’s controversial journey across Yugoslavia, Romania and Poland. BS&T were clearly at the top of their game in 1970, as their second eponymously titled album hit number one for 7 weeks, sold over 4 million copies in the U.S. and yielded three Top 5 singles…they even won a Grammy® for Album of the Year over The Beatles’ Abbey Road.
Omnivore Recordings is delighted to announce a companion piece to What The Hell Happened To Blood, Sweat & Tears? – Original Soundtrack, with the digital only release of What The Hell Happened To Blood, Sweat & Tears? – Original Score composed by founding member Bobby Colomby and arranger/composer/musician David Mann. What makes this release incredibly unique is the original score is not only co-written by original member Colomby but performed by the current 2023 lineup of Blood, Sweat & Tears, bringing the musical vibe right up to date.
The film, to be released worldwide by Abramorama, a New York-based film and distribution company, will see a domestic theatrical release on March 31, 2023. The film will include over 25 songs from the Blood, Sweat & Tears catalog, including the ten songs performed live that appear on Omnivore’s original song soundtrack and the nearly 20 minutes of original score that appear on What The Hell Happened To Blood, Sweat & Tears? – Original Score.
