The Nashville power trio of energetic guitarist-singer Ken McMahan (former frontman of The Dusters) released their second album "That's Your Reality" on the French label Dixiefrog, the first was simply called Ken McMahan & Slumpy Boy (1994 DixieFrog). The record has received strong reviews over the past six months, including rave reviews in the "Nuggets" column of Germany's Rolling Stone. "It's pretty straightforward guitar rock," says McMahan of That's Your Reality. He's right, but at their best southern boogie woogie, Slumpy Boy and crunchy guitar rock provide the visceral thrill of '70s FM radio staples like Rick Derringer's "Rock and Roll Hoochie Coo" or Lynyrd's "What's Your Name" Skynyrd, but with the added bonus of a smoky cover of Mickey Jupp's depraved "Switchboard Susan".
