"I think you're really free when you can spontaneously use all the possibilities. I wouldn't want to do without free jazz even today. I just don't want to go into a ghetto, I want to use all the possibilities that jazz offers today..." said Germany's most famous trombonist, Albert Mangelsdorff, in 1993. A quote that gives an idea of the wide range of his musical work. This is exactly what the quartet "ToneGallery" around Steffen Weber (saxophone), Bastian Ruppert (guitar), Hans Glawischnig (double bass) and Holger Nesweda (drums) pays tribute to. At the same time, the band closes a musical gap with their album "Do Albert Mangelsdorff". “Albert Mangelsdorff is primarily known as an instrumentalist and improviser. There has never been a band project dedicated to his compositions posthumously,” reports Steffen Weber. Together with his three fellow musicians, he creatively edited and rearranged selected compositions by the exceptional trombonist. Courage and creativity – the quartet also expected these virtues on their follow-up album. Guitarist Bastian Ruppert speaks of a musical symbiosis: "Our album honors Mangelsdorff's legacy and at the same time bears the signature of ToneGallery. Typical jazz - the past inspires the new!"
