Idema/Serierse Quartet featuring Gijs Idema, Anna Serierse, Cas Jiskoot and Tim Hennekes - Cloud Studies (2023) [Hi-Res]

‘‘We are extremely proud that our second album Cloud Studies is finally here. During preparations, we discovered that we both had a film roll full of photos of clouds that we had captured over time. When we started on our new record, this funny coincidence became our inspiration during the composition process. The album is loosely inspired by the cloud studies of various painters such as John Constable and William Turner. Our goal was to convert certain painting styles into compositional techniques and translate them to our musical canvas.

By writing all the music for Cloud Studies together, we worked on an overarching arc for the entire album. We started with small, short improvisations that we developed into full compositions. The result is an album with recurring motifs that run as a common thread through the pieces. It feels like a new chapter in the development of the Idema/Serierse Quartet for us.’’ - Gijs Idema & Anna Serierse
