A reunion of friends 40 years in the making on an extremely tasty performance to an intimate studio audience at WICN FM in Worcester, Massachusetts!
Their longtime friendship started back in 1977, when they played alongside each other in the jazz fusion group, Channel One. By the mid ’80s, Greg and Paul were traveling with the Artie Shaw Orchestra under the direction of Dick Johnson, before each of them branched out on separate career paths.
Greg has developed an international career as a jazz saxophonist, composer and recording artist who tours the globe as many as 225 days a year. Paul built a 30-year career on the faculty at Berklee College of Music, while maintaining an active international freelance career as a performer and educator.
Over the years Greg and Paul have had the opportunity to continue their friendship and playing together as their schedules permitted in the Rhode Island area. In 2021 they began talking about doing a recording since it was well overdue. The last time they recorded together was in 1994.
The idea of a co-led quartet came to be and this began a collaboration of writing and regularly getting together to develop the music. Greg and Paul put in many hours of playing, sax/flute and bass with each of them taking turns at the piano to paint the harmonic picture that each had in mind their compositions. In the spring of 2022 the music was ready to be performed and the quartet was rounded out by Matt de Champlain on piano and Gary Johnson on drums.
