Paper Sparrows - Hiding Away From The Light (2023) [Hi-Res]

Alt-folk trio Paper Sparrows’ sound centres on their distinctive twin-acoustic guitar style, finger-picking and harmonies - all held together by the warm hug of the double bass. Arrangements draw upon 60s folk-revivalists such as Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Dylan and Donovan up to contemporary acts like Dave Rawlings, Kris Drever and the Milk Carton Kids.

The band collaborated with Kris Drever, Katherine Priddy and Lindisfarne’s Rod Clements through their club night Folksville - at which the band came to be.

'Hiding Away From The Light' is Paper Sparrows' debut long player. The Folksville Records release was recorded in Edinburgh at Chamber Studios. The 10 tracks on the album comprise reflection, regret, the assessment of past mistakes, and of reconsidering the merits of darkness and light. The songs are forward looking but haunted by nostalgia, referencing childhood memories, class culture and the cost of survival through the hard times.
