James Ilgenfritz - #entrainments (2023) [Hi-Res]

#Entrainments" is the latest album by bassist and composer James Ilgenfritz. The album features his European quartet, consisting of Cologne-based saxophonist Angelika Niescier and cellist Nathan Bontrager, and Zurich-based drummer Gerry Hemingway.

"#Entrainments" presents the first documentation of Ilgenfritz's new series of "#Entrainments" compositions, focusing primarily on jazz, contemporary classical and conceptual art.

This system of compositions decouples structure and intuition to explore new relationships between form and content. Bringing together influences from the AACM, New York and European jazz and improvisational music scenes with concepts from the conceptual art world of Fluxus, Marcel Duchamp, Lorna Simpson Simpson, David Hammons and Charles Gaines, the "#Entrainments" series explores the musical form that can be restructured into in live performance.
