Originally, from Cleveland, Ohio, blues and jazz singer Terry Wilson is an American treasure. Dubbed the next Abbey Lincoln by music impresario and conductor Damien Sneed, Terry’s unique ability to combine grit, soul and storytelling is unparalleled. Her authenticity sparks a deep feeling, says Grammy winning Producer Director Jeff Jones, the Jedi Master.

“My interest in singing began in my childhood when I was 8 years old. I would listen to my mother sing on Sunday mornings while preparing meals for the family,” says Terry.

Music was a large part of her upbringing. During that time, exposed to blues, jazz, gospel, R&B, soul and funk. All of which, helped shape and mold her vocal sound.

“Hank Wentz, a fellow musician and friend, introduced me to Eric Offner, the president of the Sidney Bechet Society, NYC. I received the Bert Levi Award given by the Society to emerging artists. I performed with Marty Napoleon of Louis Armstrong’s ‘All Stars Band,’ which was a great honor. I’ve always had ‘a thing’ for foundations. A fascination with what something is built upon. The solidness of it- everything else comes as a result of the foundation. That foundation is what I desire to share with others through my music. It’s bedrock, it’s solid, tested, tried and true. It’s enduring. It has a timelessness that speaks to the human condition. My music is not a black or white thing, it’s about the human emotions that we all share. Music touches, it can reach in to our beings,” Terry says.

"The bedrock music of these foundational music artists are American classics, upon which the whole house is built." says Wilson.

Terry understands the meaning of the heritage blues and roots music. Her earthy and soulful performances have graced Jazz at Lincoln Center, Louis Armstrong House, Symphony Space and countless New York jazz clubs.

Terry’s album entitled "Bedrock” is due to be released in 2023. The album will feature collaborations with jazz greats Wycliffe Gordon, Sullivan Fortner, Marcus Printup, Damien Sneed, Shedrick Mitchell, Alfonso Horn and others, bringing new life to a special blend of Blues Roots, Gospel, and Jazz. With a wink and a smile, she can transform an audience. A true leader in the industry, Terry’s music brings people together in a way our fragmented America needs. She sings about real people and real situations in a way that is uplifting, transformative and inspirational.

Whether a song by Robert Johnson, Mahalia Jackson, Bessie Smith or any other who has left us a piece of the foundation, her soul does well to remember.
