Emmy® award-winning musical director, musician, singer, and songwriter Adam Blackstone releases a brand new album entitled The Legacy Experience LIVE. It features 14 live performances from his “The Legacy Experience” pop-up shows across the US, in support of his 2022 debut album Legacy.
The new album opens with a mesmerizing instrumental of “Legacy.” Once Adam urges the crowd to, “Come rock with us,” a soft drumbeat, dreamy keys, and captivating horns paint the soundscape. On “Biggest, Greatest Thing” (feat. Mary Mary),” Mary Mary unleashes soaring vocals above head-nodding piano and lively trumpet. Among many highlights, he links up with Leslie Odom Jr. on a hypnotic cover of Nat King Cole’s “Smile.” Between melancholic strings and piano, Leslie showcases his skyscraper-reaching vocal skills. Then, there’s “Trust Me (Interlude),” which teems with energy through Robert Glapser’s mesmerizing piano performance. Halfway through the seven minute tune, his piano playing is met with a jazzy drumbeat before fading into the distance. Adam joins forces with DIXSON on “Just the Two of Us / Do For Love.”Between upbeat horns and bongos, DIXSON unleashes a sizzling cover of the Bill Withers classic while an exciting keyboard breakdown closes out the song.
Adam Blackstone initially released Legacy in September 2022. The album instantly resonated with audiences, drawing up north of 4.7 million streams across all platforms with the fan-favorite “’Round Midnight” tallying 1.2 million Spotify streams alone. “’Round Midnight” also went-on to receive a 2023 Grammy nomination for “Best Traditional R&B Performance,” while Barack Obama touted the track on his coveted “Favorite Music of 2022” playlist. Meanwhile, Legacy was honored with the award for “Outstanding Jazz Album - Vocal” at the 54th NAACP Image Awards.
In other news, Blackstone is currently nominated for two Emmy awards in the category of Musical Direction. He received one nomination for his efforts in the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, and the other for Rihanna’s most-watched 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show. Blackstone previously picked-up an Emmy win for The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and more.
This year, Blackstone also acted as the Creative Musical Director for the “Hip Hop 50” Celebration at Yankee Stadium, working alongside a star-studded lineup featuring Run-DMC, Lil Wayne, Lil Kim, Snoop Dogg, and Nas.
