The new quartet “Bruchgold & Koralle” by the Berlin pianist and multi-instrumentalist Jörg Hochapfel plays his adventurous pieces and, among other things, manages the obvious balancing act between the deepest melancholy and the most bizarre humor.
The four wander like a hummingbird and in a very peculiar way between old jazz, semi-silky exotica, abstract improvisation and strange but outrageously catchy melodies.
Bruchgold & Koralle - behind the two words that sound like the material that every hopeless romantic's jewelry box dreams are made of, lies a brand new all-star quartet of modern (free) jazz around the bandleader Jörg Hochapfel, who is responsible for all of the compositions .
The cast alone guarantees sounds that are as fine as they are beyond well-ordered paths, in short: music with a goal-oriented lack of intention, or also: the sonic embodiment of the flâneur who is only too happy to be distracted, sometimes including the “Little Waltz” to the left of Sesame Street, sometimes the “Reign Animals” marveling at the right side of the path, blessed with a childlike joy over one's own discoveries.”
