Voices of Theory was founded in the early 1990s by five Latino youths from North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their first major exposure came when they were tapped to open for Mariah Carey for 12 nights of her 1993 tour. Later that year, they contributed a cover of "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" for the soundtrack of the film Calendar Girl. After the murder of their manager, Melvin Wallace, the group momentarily found themselves without direction.
But in 1997, they signed with Jellybean Benitez's H.O.L.A. label where they released their only album, a self-titled effort, in 1998. Their single,
"Say It", was released on April 21, 1998. It reached #10 on U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and became a certified gold record.
In 2018, Voices of Theory reportedly regrouped with original members—Mechi Cebollero (Mech220), Jay Cartagena, David Cordova, and Hector "the H.R" Ramos—to work on a new release.
Did some detective work to figure out the Robert Haskinz feature. He's not listed in the liner notes that way. You're welcome! Thanks to the guy on YouTube who ripped one track off Haskinz obscure 12inch "Undeniable Heat". Nice collection ;) Kurupt, Mona Lisa, Sloppy Joe, and Veronica are also buried in the liner notes for some reason (but are listed as features). None of them appear in the tracklisting on the back cover or on the CD label. Might have gained more traction listing them... who knows? Anyway, enjoy this Voices of Theory album!
