Led by baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan, the Concert Jazz Band was essentially designed to create a big band sound with a smaller number of people. The end product was a group that had a light yet full sound, hard swinging yet breezy and fleet of foot. The band featured a who's who of jazz musicians and arrangers (most notably a young Bob Brookmeyer) until its disbanding in 1964.
