The former Kiss guitarist, whose vocal debut came with the 1977 song Shock Me, is back with 10,000 Volts, a new (eighth) solo album full of energy and personality. Frehley remains one of the pioneers of classic hard rock guitar with an instantly recognizable blues-based vibrato sound. The new album is a big, joyful hard rock record that highlights Ace's creativity and songwriting talent, where Frehley sounds just great, not caring what others say or do. Instead, he's having fun and playing guitar the way fans have been expecting since the last album. If 2020's Origins Vol.2 was a cheeky but predictable cover set, then 10,000 Volts sounds like a purposeful return to the sound of stadium rock that Frehley did so much to create.
The title track, which gave the album its name, is another song on the theme of electricity from Frehley, who in 1976 received a severe electric shock on stage due to touching an ungrounded metal railing. And judging by the new album, the voltage hasn't been turned off yet.
