Anyone who enjoyed Joel Forrestor's work with the Microscopic Septet should check out this CD. Forrestor's quirky piano lines within his works come across jaunty and stimulating. Baritone saxophonist Claire Daly, also simultaneously holding the same chair in the big band Diva, is a strong player able hold to her own against any of the current players of her instrument, which she does on several tracks with guest Dave Sewelson. "Don't Ask Me Now" is obviously inspired by Monk's tune, but still manages to sound fresh. "Dodo" is a wild bop theme in honor of pianist Dodo Marmarosa; also enjoyable is the calypso-flavored "Bright Time." Bassist Dave Hofstra and drummer Denis Charles provide solid rhythm support.~Ken Dryden
