Tom Gary is one of the best blues piano players in the Midwest. His rollicking piano playing has thrill fans from Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas for years. He learned to play the blues while living in Kansas City from such local blues heroes as Larry Van Loon, Dan Doran, and Roy Searce. However, he learned about life from the legendary bluesman Jimmy "The Midnite Cowboy" Pryor. Pryor was a legend in Des Moines for many years as the great old bluesman. He came to Des Moines for a two week engagement in 1960 and never left. He taught Tom not only how to play the blues right, but how to treat his fans right by treating them with love and respect.
Tom Gary is backed by some great artists, Don Demers, bass, played for many years in Nashville with a lot of great country, and jazz artists. Jimmy Davis, guitar, spent years on the road with a number of small time rock bands during the 70s, and 80s. Paul Sleezer, drums, also spent many years on the road, and also lived for several years in Kansas City playing with many of the same players that Tom Gary did. All four of these great musicians returned to the peace and quiet of NW Iowa, and in a matter of one year have created one of the best bands in the area.
