A year ago, New York City-based pop/rock collective Gramercy Arms released their Deleted Scenes LP, which they now follow up with their fourth album The Making Of The Making Of. A large number of the nine songs on the new album were recorded during the same sessions for the band’s previous one, which is quite meta title-wise. Singer-songwriter Dave Derby, the mastermind behind the music, explains: “I initially thought about doing a double album and then decided against it. (…) To me, there is an understated, almost dark horse element to The Making Of that gives it a special charm. (…) Even though these songs came from the same sessions, this album was much more of a band record.” Although many musicians contribute (including four different drummers) and one of the tunes is a cover (The Loud Family’s Don’t Respond, She Can Tell), the record is an organic whole. This is radio-friendly indie folk-pop, warm and endearing, with nostalgic quality – an engaging soundtrack for when you head home after the after party, while the sun rises.
