Concurrence has a firm grounding in experimental, edgy jazz, and improvisation is at the core of everything they do. But their recordings and performances (with mainstream vocalists, spoken-word artists and rappers alike) show them drawing on multiple groove-oriented sources to focus on something they aptly call “black creative music.” Ron Wynn - Nashville Scene

Founded by producer/Keyboardist Paul Horton (Alabama Shakes, Brittany Howard) with bassist and broadcaster Greg Bryant, Concurrence is a musical brotherhood based on trust, improvisation and celebration of Black music. The band's forthcoming 2024 album, Indivisible, is a musical reflection of the deleterious effects of Interstate Highway construction on Black communities across the United States and those communities' subsequent economic and artistic resilience. The album is partially funded by the Pathways to Jazz grant award, mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Dave Cooley (J Dilla's Donuts,) and includes contributions from award-winning drummers Nasheet Waits, Tommy Crane, Aaron Smith, Marcus Finnie and Derrek Phillips.
