The choirs of Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge and King's College London join forces and cross the continent to experience the sublime expressiveness of Rodion Shchedrin's Russian liturgy, an amazing statement of faith composed in the early days of perestroika.
Shchedrin's choral paintings combine tenderness with invigorating sound effects and are everywhere shaded by the drawling voice of the oboe solator, personifying the soul of the Russian people. This pioneering choral partnership recorded the work on CD after the acclaimed UK premiere concerts at the Spitalfields and Oundle Festivals in the summer of 2008.
